Transforming Orphanages
In many communities, residential facilities have been one of the only ways for children to access education, health care, and other essential services. As a result, children are separated from their families and grow up without the relationships they need to thrive.
We are working to change that.
Instead of long-term on-site care, we support facilities to transition toward family-based care, ensuring children grow up in families while services remain available within their communities.
How We Do This
We support facilities to identify safe family options for every child, including reunification with relatives, kinship care, foster care, or adoption.
At the same time, we work alongside facility staff and community partners to help services shift from a residential model to community-based support, such as education, child protection, and family strengthening.
This approach allows children to grow up in families, while preserving the skills, resources, and commitment already present in their communities.
Why This Matters
Children need families, not institutions. By helping facilities reimagine their role in the community, we reduce unnecessary separation, strengthen local services, and help more children grow up safe, connected, and loved.
